Honey’s Popularity is Increasing Among Consumers

Honey is absolutely amazing. It’s the only food produced by insects that humans consume.

Its popularity as a natural sweetener is growing exponentially and many food producers are using it to sweeten their products and bind ingredients together.

A survey conducted by the National Honey Board says 93% of consumers say honey is a natural sweetener, and 48% say they look for products that are made with honey.

“This independent survey confirmed our assumptions that consumers love honey,” Catherine Barry, the National Honey Board’s Director of Marketing, said. “Many consumers think the ingredient is natural, look for it on the labels and pay more for a product that is made with honey.”

The survey in Prepared Foods magazine also revealed the following statistics:

58% of consumers with one or more children look for honey on product labels, and 60% of consumers between the ages of 18 and 34, look for honey on the product label.

Almost 60% of consumers would pay more money for bread that was sweetened with honey and half said they would pay more for other products (snack bars, beverages, etc.) that were also sweetened with honey.

Middle- to high-income consumers between the ages of 18-44 with children would pay more for products sweetened with honey.
