Chobani Flip could be the next $1 billion brand in yogurt, the company claims.
The Flip line was launched in 2013 and is attracting new consumers to the yogurt aisle while showing existing customers a more interesting way to eat yogurt. Up next is an expansion into savory territory with the launch of novel sweet and spicy varieties.
“This whole sweet and spicy thing, it’s a really exciting direction for yogurt,” said Peter McGuiness, Chobani’s chief marketing and brand officer. He believes consumers are bored with traditional yogurt flavors, and creative new flavors will turn it into a high-interest category.
Currently, the most successful product in the Flip line is Almond Coco Loco, a coconut Greek yogurt with honey-roasted almonds and dark chocolate. This yogurt is already outselling Chobani’s core cup flavors.
Other products in the Flip line also use honey, including Clover Honey, Salted Caramel Crunch, Tropical Escape, Peanut Butter Dream, Key Lime Crumble and Nutty for ‘Nana.
