Honey FAQ: Storing Honey

One of the most frequent questions we get is about the storage of honey.

Most people know that honey is one of the few ingredients that will most likely never spoil. Why? Honey has a moisture content of about 17%, a low pH and antimicrobial properties. Regardless, it is still very important to store honey properly to maintain its integrity.

General Honey Storage Guidelines

Best stored in a sealed container at room temperature, between 64-75˚F (18-24˚C)

Cooler temperatures, between 35-60˚F, hasten honey’s natural crystallization process

Honey stored at temperatures above 85˚F for extended periods of time will darken in color and be subject to subtle flavor changes
